EC announces targets to promote renewable energy

Today the European Commission published a draft Directive on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources.  The policy will have a range of implications for the energy and energy intensive industries in the EU.  The Commission hopes to see the package adopted by the end of 2008.

A key aspect of the draft Directive is a proposed target for each Member State for the share of energy from renewable sources in final consumption for 2020; ranging from 49% in Sweden to 10% in Malta.

Frontier (Europe) has advised a host of public and private sector clients on the effect of the EU’s CO2 emission reductions policies on prices and competitiveness. Frontier is also advising investment funds on investments into renewable energies in Europe and elsewhere.
