Smart metering cost benefit analysis
In its 2007 Energy White Paper, the UK government made a number of proposals about billing and metering designed to give customers additional information to help them reduce energy consumption. The Department of Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) is undertaking a consultation on these proposals. To help to inform its response to this consultation, British Gas (Centrica) commissioned Frontier (London) to analyse the costs and benefits of proposals to introduce smart meters for domestic and business customers within Great Britain. A particular focus of this work was to assess the cost impact associated with rolling out smart meters within the current competitive metering market (where each supplier is responsible for provision of metering services for its customers) compared with the costs that may result if a roll-out were undertaken on a co-ordinated basis through some sort of regional franchise.Click here to download Frontier’s paper
