Are there too many barristers, or not enough?

The supply of barristers for criminal aid cases is partly responsible for the delivery of justice. Estimating whether there is a sufficiently large supply is more difficult in a heavily regulated market; how is it known whether there are too many or too few barristers?

Frontier (London) has been working with the UK Department of Constitutional Affairs for nearly two years to better understand this issue. At the heart of the analysis is a unique questionnaire that investigates changes in the balance of supply and demand over time. Frontier is currently conducting the second annual survey to investigate emerging patterns in this market.
