Amar Breckenridge

Amar is a reformed macroeconomist, having begun his career managing fiscal policy and debt relief in East Africa. He found his way to his present vocation in applied microeconomics via five years as a trade policy economist at the World Trade Organisation. His experience in these three major areas of applied economics stands him in good stead to advise clients on the major public policy issues they face.

Amar leads Frontier Economics’ public policy work. His expertise spans a number of areas, notably:

  • The economics of climate change and the environment. Amar has led projects on climate change mitigation policies and adaptation policies, and advised on policy design for the delivery of environmental public goods.
  • Energy and natural resources, particularly policy and regulatory reform, the divestment of state-owned assets, and competition policy
  • Trade policy, including  the analysis of trade reforms, anti-dumping cases, trade facilitation, and the analysis of the impact of regulatory changes on international trade
  • Institutional reform and policy development, through the application of cost-benefit analysis and the appraisal of government investment decisions.
Amar's recent clients include various power sector companies, state and national governments, and international development agencies.
