Dutch energy regulator publishes tariff proposals for electricity metering

Energiekamer, the Dutch energy regulator, today published its draft tariff proposals for electricity metering for 2009.  Energiekamer proposes to maintain the current tariff, which was first set in 2005, unchanged in real terms.

The tariff proposals take into account the proposed roll-out of smart meters to all electricity and gas customers in the Netherlands, due to start in 2011, and its expected economic impact on Dutch distribution companies.

In support of Energiekamer's decision process, Frontier (Europe) in conjunction with Logica, undertook a study of the costs and benefits of smart meters for network operators in the Netherlands.  The analysis involved modelling alternative scenarios and policy options to identify a variety of potential outcomes.
