UK Government continues to develop competition in healthcare
The UK Department of Health has recently launched the Cooperation and Competition Panel. This formalises the next stage in the use of competition to drive healthcare improvements. In the current economic climate, improving delivery of healthcare services without increasing the cost becomes even more important. The Panel will make recommendations on a range of areas, including mergers, the conduct of healthcare institutions, advertising and procurement appeals.
Frontier (Europe) continues to provide support to a range of healthcare institutions in this new environment. Frontier has recently undertaken work with NHS London and is advising the UK Department of Health on how they can assist Primary Care Trusts to stimulate healthcare markets, and Yorkshire and the Humber Strategic Health Authority on its market management.
