Supporting smart meter roll out in Great Britain

Ofgem has appointed Frontier (Europe) and PA Consulting Group to support the scoping phase of the roll out of smart electricity and gas meters to every household in Great Britain by 2020.

The Department of Energy and Climate Change in Great Britain has asked Ofgem to manage the scoping of the rollout. Frontier and PA will now work with Ofgem, in outlining the requirements for smart meters, home displays and communications; developing the approach to industry wide communications and data management; pioneering the roll-out strategy and identifying the key components of the regulatory regime to underpin the successful deployment of smart meters.

Bob Hull, Acting Managing Director, Commercial, at Ofgem E-Serve said "The roll out of smart meters to households and small and medium enterprise customers across Great Britain is an exciting task that will underpin the future of energy supply in Great Britain. It is a complex task and one of the biggest changes the energy industry has seen for some time and we are delighted to be working with the PA and Frontier team in developing a solid scoping approach that will ensure success".

Frontier has worked on smart metering and smart grid projects across a range of jurisdictions in Europe and beyond.
