New bulletins for January 2007

The common theme in this new set of bulletins is the importance of understanding customer and consumer behaviour when making decisions, whether you are a regulator, a Government body or a commercial firm.

In Taking away the electric shocks we look at the characteristics of energy markets that make them prone to periods of unusually high prices and ask why, when periods of similarly high prices are common in other markets, high energy prices make politicians feel so uncomfortable.

A healthy choice looks at the issues facing the new Strategic Health Authorities as they try to work out how best to respond to increased patient choice. Will the additional choice lead to some hospitals becoming super-profitable whilst others face bankruptcy. And can we pre-empt this?

In Oranges and Lemons we provide insights into how to make the best of customer segmentation analysis. What information is it worthwhile collecting, will it really tell me about the factors that drive customer decisions and how can I use it to improve my products and services?

Finally, Don't annoy the elephants considers what can go wrong when businesses attempt to focus on the customer without fully understanding what matters to him or her.
