Microdata methods and practice

Sarah Hogg, Chairman of Frontier Economics Ltd (London), was one of the many distinguished speakers at the launch of the Centre for Microdata Methods and Practice (cemmap) on 6th December 2001 at the Royal Society of Arts in the Strand, London. The year 2000 Nobel Laureates in Economics, James Heckman and Daniel McFadden, were the keynote speakers. The Centre is a joint venture by the Institute for Fiscal Studies and the Department of Economics at University College London. The Centre for Microdata Methods and Practice (cemmap) aims to stimulate the development of microdata methods and practice. Sarah's speech focused on how well the creation of microdata methods in academic research had spread to business and government through the applied work of economic consultancies. A "virtuous circle" can be created when the work of economic consultancies lead to a call for better data sets and more advanced techniques from academic research. Slides can be found here.
