Review of regulation and programmes
Most governments require that sector-specific regulation be assessed to examine the balance of costs and benefits that ensue. With increasing pressure on official budgets, governments are also keen to review whether particular policy and programme choices have delivered value for money.
- Review of catchment management institutions and legislation. Frontier Economics (Australia) reviewed existing institutional arrangements for integrated catchment management in Victoria, identifying the steps needed to secure a better management of public resources. Working with a legal expert, it identified changes to relevant legislation that could facilitate the delivery of better policy outcomes.
- Frontier (Australia) developed an economic and public policy framework for understanding the role of government in managing rural land use change and conflict for the Victorian Department of Primary Industries. The framework was applied to examine four key aspects of the current system of rural land use planning and included case studies of rural land use change and adjustment in regional Victoria.
