Competition Commission asks for views on supermarkets sale

The UK's Office of Fair Trading (OFT) has referred the completed acquisition by Somerfield plc of 114 stores from Wm Morrison Supermarkets plc to the Competition Commission (CC). The CC has been asked to consider whether the acquisition may be expected to result in a substantial lessening of competition within the market for grocery retailing in the UK, and is expected to report by 6 September 2005.
