Supermarkets receive remedies letter on Safeway
The Competition Commission (CC) has today sent a letter to the main parties in the Safeway merger enquiries setting out potential remedies . On 8 May the CC set out in its Issues Statement a number of issues it wished to consider in coming to a decision as to whether any of the transactions would operate against the public interest. The remedies letter follows on from this and sets out the CC's current thinking on these issues, and outlines a number of different remedy options to address potential competition concerns. The CC has identified complete prohibition or store divestments as potential remedies. The CC is due to report its final findings by August 12 2003. Frontier advises Tesco.
