Competition Commission provisionally clears Brightsolid/Friends Reunited merger
The UK Competition Commission (CC) has today provisionally cleared the merger of Brightsolid and Friends Reunited who both provide online genealogy services. The CC found that the degree of overlap in the activities of the two companies was small and that other constraints on prices would remain after the merger. Therefore, it does not expect a substantial lessening of competition as a result of the merger. In fact, it found the merger could potentially result in benefits for consumers as the merged company will be better placed to compete with the largest supplier in the market, Ancestry.co.uk.
Frontier (London) advises the merging parties.
