Necessary inventions - Frontier Economics bulletin

Frontier's latest bulletin considers how prizes can stimulate innovation in low carbon technologies.  By 2050, the UK hopes to have reduced carbon emissions by at least 80%, relative to 1990 levels.  The scale of the challenge means that it could never be met by the efforts of individuals and businesses to reduce their energy consumption alone.  Instead, whole sectors of the economy - particularly energy and transport - need to see technology transformed, requiring massive innovation. Whilst economists can’t do the innovating, Frontier's bulletin looks at how they can design policies to stimulate the necessary inventions.
