Germany promotes trials into smart energy regions through E-Energy programme

The German Federal Economics Ministry today announced the six winning bidders in the "E-Energy: Information technology based energy systems of the future" contest. The Ministry will support the winning contestants with an R&D budget of € 40 Mio.
 
Selected projects include

  • eTelligence, Cuxhaven (EWE, SAP et al)
  • E-DeMa, Rhein-Ruhr (RWE Energy, Siemens, Miele et al)
  • MEREGIO, Karlsruhe/Stuttgart (EnBW; ABB, IBM, SAP et al)
  • Modellstadt Mannheim, Mannheim (MVV, IBM et al)
  • RegModHarz - Regenerative Modellregion Harz, Landkreis Harz (RegenerativKraftwerk Harz, E.ON Avacon Netz, Siemens, Vattenfall Europe Transmission)
  • Smart W@TTS, Aachen (Trianel European Energy Trading, RWTH Aachen, Bosch Siemens Hausgeräte et al)

The contest has been supported by a jury of 13 academics and industry experts with background in the energy and the IT sector. Christoph Riechmann, Director in the Frontier (Europe) Energy Practice and head of Frontier's Cologne office is a member of the jury.
