Tate secures £50 million from UK Government for new gallery

Tate, Britain's second most visited tourist attraction, has secured a £50 million grant from Government for the development of a new gallery adjacent to Tate Modern.  The announcement, made by Culture Secretary James Purnell, will allow Tate Modern to construct an iconic new gallery.  It will increase the size of Tate Modern by 60%, allowing it to display more of its permanent collection.  The new gallery, which it is hoped will be completed for 2012, will cement London's position as the world's cultural capital.

Frontier (London) helped to write Tate's Business Case to the British Government.  The Business Case set out the options appraisal and the public benefits that will arise from the project.  Its approval, by both the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and HM Treasury, was one important element in securing the funding.
