Frontier advises Northern Ireland Water on efficiency

In April 2007, the basis for providing water and sewerage services in Northern Ireland was significantly reformed.   A government-owned company, Northern Ireland Water (NIW), was established and given the sole responsibility for providing water and sewerage services to domestic and non-domestic customers in Northern Ireland.  Also effective from April 2007, the new company is now regulated by the Northern Ireland Authority for Utility Regulation (NIAUR), the same body that is responsible for electricity and gas regulation in Northern Ireland.  The need to establish and apply a regulatory framework similar to those already in place in England / Wales and Scotland to the water industry in Northern Ireland poses unique challenges and opportunities for all stakeholders.  In this context, Frontier (London) has been appointed by NIW to provide a range of advice and training on the efficiency of its service provision.  Frontier will also work with NIW to develop an efficiency model that allows NIW to better understand its relative efficiency and the factors that determine it.
