Grocery markets reach much further than previously thought

In a detailed submission to the UK Competition Commission (CC), Tesco, the UK's largest grocery retailer, has argued that the geographic market for the supply of groceries is "substantially wider than the CC has previously found". According to Tesco, the implications of its new evidence for the CC's ongoing investigation into the sector are far reaching "the average number of stores in each market is six times as many as the 2000 Inquiry approach would suggest.". Tesco's submission can be found on the CC's website.
