Fernando Barrera joins Frontier Economics

Frontier (Europe) today announced that it is expanding its European practice and has recruited Fernando Barrera to lead Frontier’s consulting work in the energy and regulation fields in Spain, Portugal, and other Spanish/Portuguese speaking countries.

Fernando is an industrial economics specialist. His work includes both academic and applied work in microeconomic analysis of the natural gas, electricity, hydrocarbons, transport, media, and pharmaceutical industries. He is an expert on regulation and the rigorous application of industrial organization tools to the analysis of network industries. Before joining Frontier, Dr. Barrera's experience includes economic consulting, government positions (as an energy regulator in Colombia), and teaching and research in Colombian universities and at Oxford University in microeconomics, industrial organization, and their application to network industries. His main work areas have included benchmarking in gas and electricity, wholesale market design, capacity remuneration, vertical integration policies in energy industries, tariff formulae design, and energy trading in Italy, Portugal, Spain, Brazil and Colombia. In addition, he has served as an expert witness in gas supply contract disputes and has experience with intellectual property studies in the media and pharmaceutical industries.

Fernando will be part of Frontier’s Madrid based team, which will work closely with the firm's London, Brussels and Cologne offices to provide clients with a comprehensive service at both a national and a European level.
