GSMA publishes report on effect of taxation on mobile industry in Africa

Today the GSM Association (GSMA) published a report prepared by Frontier (Europe) considering the impact of taxation on the mobile industry in the Sub-Saharan region of Africa.  Taxation of mobile services is particularly high in Sub-Saharan Africa, relative to international levels. The report shows how the mobile sector is increasingly important to the economies of the region, in terms of generating employment, income and tax receipts. It then goes on to analyse the effect that different tax scenarios would have on demand for mobile services and also on future government tax revenues.

The Economist has published a summary of the report.
