Belgian Power Exchange celebrates success
At the official launch ceremony of the Belgian Power Exchange Belpex and the trilateral market coupling between France, Belgium and the Netherlands, Daniel Dobbeni President of Belpex and CEO of Elia, the Belgian electricity grid operator and founding shareholder of Belpex, spoke of the great success of Belpex. Since the start of operational trading in November Belpex had achieved and exceeded expectations:
- membership by the leading European energy traders;
- development of liquid electricity trading;
- more efficient use of transmission capacity on the borders with France and the Netherlands; and
- market integration with a uniform price with either France and the Netherlands or with both countries for 98% of the time.
Frontier (London, Cologne) has advised Elia and other shareholders in Belpex on aspects on the new market.
