Power sector reforms and renewable energy

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office held a consultation meeting on 21st March on "Power sector reform and REEEP (Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership). REEEP is a WSSD (World Summit on Sustainable Development) Type 2 partnership charged to deliver the energy policy objectives agreed at the WSSD and take forward the recommendations of the G8 Renewable Task Force. The purpose of the consultation meeting was to consider how REEEP can help in designing policies for promoting power sector reform that creates a level playing field for renewable and energy efficient systems which are compatible with sustainable development. Michael Webb from Frontier (London) presented a paper which reviewed the impact of power sector reform on renewables and ways in which the negative impacts of such reform can be overcome.
