UK Competition Commission provisionally clears football pools merger

Today, the UK Competition Commission provisionally cleared the merger of the two UK football pools companies - Sportech (operator of Littlewoods and Zetters pools) and Vernons (owned by Ladbrokes). Despite being the only two major pools operators, the CC did not find any evidence that Sportech and Vernons competed with each other and so no substantial lessening of competition would be expected to arise.
