Update on Thai electricity reforms
Over the past couple of years, the Royal Thai government has been considering extensive reforms to its power sector. These have included the creation of a competitive wholesale power market, under which generation companies would bid to supply electricity in a form of hourly, real-time auction, new regulation of the monopolistic networks elements and increased consumer choice over electricity supplier. Frontier (London) has been the government's main economic adviser throughout this process. Concrete proposals for the new system emerged from the consultative process in October - for more details, click here. Frontier will continue to provide key economic support as the new structure is implemented.
