Tackling the diseases of poverty

The Performance and Innovation Unit (PIU) today published a report which sets out a range of ideas and proposals for reducing the global burden or specific diseases which threaten those most vulnerable. The Prime Minister asked the PIU to develop a range of possible proposals for accelerating action against HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria. The report makes a series of recommendations, including options for the establishment of a global health fund, tax incentives for the appropriate R&D activities and the creation of a tiered pricing structure. Simon Gaysford, a Director at Frontier (London), provided assistance to the team from the PIU.
