BUPA report on the future of UK NHS financing

BUPA, the UK's private health insurer, has today published a report, co-authored by Frontier, discussing the future financing of healthcare in the UK. BUPA commisioned both Frontier and NERA to provide a detailed analysis of the future financial requirements of the NHS.

Current increases in NHS funding of seven percent a year end in 2008. The NHS will need real terms increases of 4.9 percent a year after that, the report says, against the 3.5 percent it predicts it will receive. This will lead to the £11 billion funding gap.

The report goes on to examine options for closing that gap and calling for an early, informed debate to avoid losing the significant gains in healthcare achieved over the past decade.
