The market for gigs
The UK Competition Commission (CC) today announces the start of its inquiry into the anticipated acquisition by Hamsard Ltd (a company jointly controlled by Live Nation (Music) UK Ltd and Gaiety Investments Ltd) of Academy Music Holdings Ltd.
The proposed acquisition, involving music venues all over the UK, was referred by the UK Office of Fair Trading (OFT) following concerns over a lack of competition post merger. The CC has been asked to decide whether the acquisition may be expected to result in a substantial lessening of competition in the market for the supply of indoor live music venues in London.
The CC is expected to report by 2 February 2007.
