UK Competition Commission releases final report on UK groceries market

After two years of extensive analysis, the Competition Commission has concluded that "consumers are receiving the benefits of competition, such as value, choice, innovation and convenience", but that action is needed to improve competition in a number of local markets and to address relationships between retailers and their suppliers.  In particular, the report argues that a "competition test" should form part of the planning regime and that a revised supplier code of conduct could improve supply chain practices.  The report did not propose divestments of stores or land holdings.
