Summer set of bulletins
Just in time for the summer, our latest set of bulletins are now available to download and are guaranteed to be compact, easy-to-read and sand-resistant!
The first of the set, Do try this at home looks at how some of the founding principles of the regulation of privatised assets and concessions can be applied to publicly owned utilities.
Two of our bulletins address the issue of communications regulation: Wrong numbers uses an example from the Competition Commission's inquiry into mobile phone call charges to illustrate the difficulties that can be faced in estimating the welfare gains from regulation. Liberty and harmony examines the tensions between market-based methods of allocating rights for the use of radio spectrum and the harmonisation of spectrum by imposing common standards across the EU and in doing so raises issues which have implications in many other sectors where regulatory and market solutions vie for attention.
The last of our summer bulletins, Buy as you sell, focuses on efficient procurement. Starting from the observation that good buying often attracts less strategic attention than good selling, this bulletin provides some simple principles that will help buyers think about how suppliers markets operate and the implications of striking different types of supply contracts.
