Mr Justice Marcus Smith rules in BritNed vs. ABB

Engineering company ABB was today ordered to pay BritNed, the Anglo-Dutch interconnector venture, just over 13 million euros after a London court said it had suffered damage due to a cartel in submarine power cables. The landmark case is the first follow-on damages claim stemming from a cartel decision to proceed through to a full trial and judgment in the UK. BritNed had originally claimed around 180 million euros in compensation.

Zoltan Biro, a director in Frontier’s competition practice, acted as expert economic witness on behalf ABB. The judgment is available here.
