De-fossilisation of the economy only succeeds with a competitive technology mix

In the latest issue of the VDMA magazine Dr David Bothe gives a short statement on the question of whether a technology-neutral approach should be supported within the green energy transition.

In his response to Prof. Dr Claudia Kemfert of the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin) who argues against leaving the introduction of new technologies to market forces, David states that the de-fossilisation of the economy can only succeed with a competitive technology mix. He justifies this by explaining that interdependencies in a networked economy are complex and the uncertainty regarding future developments in Germany and abroad are very high.

In order to prevent climate protection failing, due to a lack of social acceptance, the preferences of all market players should be fulfilled. Policy should therefore not create distortions through a one-sided choice of technology, as is currently the case.
