On 7 March, Frontier Economics and Sustainability First will co-host an event to explore what it may mean to make utility regulation ‘fit for the future’. 

The October 2018 budget included various initiatives to make utilities regulation ‘fit for the future.’ The National Infrastructure Commission is examining challenges to utilities regulation, HMT has consulted on how to encourage innovation in regulated utilities and the capacity of the UKRN is being increased. This is all happening against a backdrop of major technology and market change - and a need for innovation. This event will also discuss how best to take account of both social/fairness and environmental drivers in the design of future utility regulation.

Following short speeches from our panel, the event will open up to a discussion and questions. At the end, James Richardson, Chief Economist at the National Infrastructure Commission will be asked to give his reflections.
