Frontier Economics has worked with Whizz-Kidz, a charity that helps enable young wheelchair users to live a life without limits, to develop a framework to monitor and evaluate its activities. The framework will put the charity in a strong position to demonstrate its impact on the lives of young people, and collect information that will help it develop its support over time. Frontier undertook this analysis as part of its pro bono work with the voluntary and charity sectors.
Frontier had previously worked with Whizz-Kidz in 2016 to help evaluate one of their programmes to equip young wheelchair users with vital skills and experience by offering a range of activities including camps, wheelchair skills training, local club activities and work experience placements. This evaluation highlighted a number of positive conclusions about Whizz-Kidz’s service delivery, including improved outcomes for those taking part. Since then, Whizz-Kidz has looked to further enhance its delivery model. This includes creating a “digital passport” – a platform to facilitate better engagement with young people, allowing them to book activities and provide feedback.
Frontier’s new report outlines a ‘theory of change’ focusing on 5 core outcomes that Whizz-Kidz seeks to achieve for young wheelchair users: social engagement, independence, employability, health and wellbeing, and leadership. The report also gives Whizz-Kidz guidance on how insights from behavioural economics can be used to engage and incentivise young people to make full use of the digital passport.
