We helped the Department of Health to analyse a wide range of issues to help it better plan reforms, make spending decisions and innovate. This included issues relating to GP contracts, dentistry services, public health issues (such as diabetes, obesity and smoking), and better understanding the financial status of providers.

Planning well

The Department of Health needed insights into the performance of the NHS, demands on NHS services and impacts of NHS treatment so that it could better plan for the future.

A spoonful of medicine

We provided expert economic modelling over the course of a three-year contract.

The work included:

• Developing a provider revenue stream model to monitor the financial health of providers
• Assessing the transformation of cancer services
• Analysis of GP contracts and how they could be changed
• Assessment of the consequences of interventions to target obesity and smoking and a range of other issues.

We continue to provide analytical support widely to the Department, NHS Improvement and NHS England, alongside individual providers.
