A landmark separation

A landmark separation

The split

The regulator wanted our support to legally split up the incumbent provider of fixed telecommunication services in the country – into separate network, and ‘all other services’ businesses.

The task involved creating a separate network business with its own assets, employees, IT systems, governance structure and incentives, so that rivals could compete with the downstream business of the incumbent on an equal footing.

Divide and concur

Qualified experts of different jurisdictions where separation had already been implemented, combined with experts in the Mexican telecommunications market to deliver in-depth, country specific advice and solutions.

Called to order

We helped the regulator put in place the groundwork to effectively implement the functional separation. The process is lengthy and likely to take up to 2 years to complete.

If successful, this is expected to create a more competitive market for telecoms services.
