Mette Alfter speaks on Merger Control at the ‘Competition Law Central & Eastern Europe’ conference in Warsaw

Mette Alfter, a Director in Frontier’s competition practice and head of Frontier’s Brussels office, spoke at the ‘Competition Law Central & Eastern Europe’ conference in Warsaw last Tuesday on recent developments in merger control.

Mette provided an overview of recent developments in merger control from a competition economics perspective. She covered hot topics in relation to innovation competition, which was analysed in detail in the recent European Commission decisions on the Bayer/Monsanto and Dow/Dupont mergers, shared insights on mergers in digital markets, illustrated by the merger between Just Eat and Hungryhouse in the UK, and discussed current proposals for change in merger control to tackle challenges with assessing mergers in the digital sector. The presentation also addressed the recently prohibited merger between UK supermarket giants Sainsbury’s and Asda, which included a couple of new points and at the very least can serve as a useful blueprint for future mergers in this sector due to the comprehensive analysis that was undertaken.

Frontier regularly advises on competition issues across Europe.
