Frontier speaks on market design in the electricity sector

Christoph Riechmann and Catherine Galano, from Frontier’s Energy team, gave a presentation today at the “Market design and the energy transition: towards a multiplication of markets?” conference hosted by the German-French office for the Energy Transition in Paris.

Christoph and Catherine first gave a presentation on the status and effects of liberalisation in the electricity sector. They compared the main features of market designs in France and Germany. They discussed how historic legacy and market design choices influence power prices and the electricity market structure in both countries today.

Christoph gave a second presentation on the logic and challenges of the electricity market design in Germany and presented an outlook of the challenges posed by the planned phase out of coal fired power generation in Germany.

The German-French office for the Energy Transition is an information and networking platform on the energy transition in Germany and France. Their objective is to exchange know-how on the development of renewable energies and their integration into the energy system between French and German actors.

Frontier regularly advises public and private sector clients on energy and regulatory issues across Europe.
