Global sustainability and supporting the UN Global Compact

Global sustainability and supporting the UN Global Compact

Sustainability is an integral part of business strategy, culture and daily operations at Frontier.

Frontier first became a member of the UN Global Compact (UNGC) in 2014, and has once again reaffirmed its commitment to support a sustainable business world for the future.

The UNGC is the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, with over 9,500 participating companies and more than 3,000 non-business participants. It’s mission is to bring together key stakeholders and companies to work towards a sustainable future for all.

The UNGC embraces the view that principles are key to sustainability and has therefore developed ten core principles. Businesses and individuals can use these principles to guide them when creating policies and their own initiatives, with the ultimate goal of leading participants to implement more sustainable and socially responsible policies.

The principles span across four key themes:

  • Human rights
  • Labour
  • The environment
  • Anti-corruption

Our latest communication of progress details the actions we are taking to improve the integration of the UNGC and its principles at Frontier.

In addition to progress relating to human rights, labour, and anti-corruption, we have also seen the following progress in relation to environmental principles:

  • A 4% decrease in emissions per employee over the period January 2019 to April 2020;
  • Over the same period, a 3.83% decrease in Frontier’s carbon footprint intensity;
  • To balance out the firm’s carbon footprint, Frontier has so far offset over 5,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.

Frontier manager, Clive Kenny, notes: “Businesses play a key role in supporting sustainability goals: change is more effective when the private sector works alongside governments and the voluntary sector. At Frontier we are proud that we deliver our work in a way that meets our ambitions in supporting sustainability. Our continued support for the UN Global Compact shows our commitment across the initiative’s four themes.”
