Frontier speaks at the European University Institute seminar on Competition in Digital Markets

María Paula Torres, analyst in the Telecommunications Practice at Frontier, spoke today at the European University Institute Scientific Seminar on “Competition, Regulation and Freedom of Expression in Infrastructure and Digital Markets”. The seminar brought together scholars and practitioners in the fields of economics, law and political science to discuss the challenges of competition and regulation in digital markets.

María Paula presented a study, co-authored with José María Rodríguez and Luigi Stammati from Frontier, evaluating the impact of informal service provision in the Pay TV market in Latin America. The study highlights the importance of taking informal provision into account when assessing the state of competition in the Pay TV markets. Informal provision is found to damage the ability of formal Pay TV operators to compete: the report recommends that policy makers consider countering informality as a tool to foster competition in the Pay TV market.

Frontier regularly advises clients in the telecommunications sector on issues related to competition policy.
