The Colombian National Planning Department (DNP) is currently implementing broad changes to the governance of the Colombian electricity market. This restructuring stems from a report by Frontier, commissioned by the Inter-American Development Bank, analysing the institutional performance of the electricity market and suggesting changes to its governance.
The reforms cover three main fronts:
- Reinforcing the technical qualification of the Colombian energy and gas regulator, CREG
- Implementing Regulatory Impact Analysis to inform regulatory decisions
- Establishing an appeals body to solve potential disputes between the regulator and market agents.
Frontier regularly advises private and public sector organisations in the energy sector in Latin America and all over the world.
