Sir Christopher Pissarides is the Regius Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics, the Professor of European Studies at the University of Cyprus and the co-founder of the Institute for the Future of Work.
An expert on labour markets, macroeconomics and economic growth, he was awarded the 2010 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences for his work on markets with search frictions. His research, most notably the Mortensen-Pissarides model, has shaped understanding of unemployment, job creation and wage dynamics worldwide. His recent research has focused on the employment implications of automation and artificial intelligence for the future of work.
Alongside his academic work, he has advised governments and international organisations on employment and growth policy, chaired high-profile economic reviews, and given keynotes to large audiences.
He is a Fellow of the British Academy, the Econometric Society and the Academy of Athens, and was knighted in 2013 for services to economics.
