Frontier Economics Hires CMA Chief Economic Advisor

Mike Walker will join Frontier in January from the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority

Frontier Economics announces today that, subject to finalising conflicts of interest, it has hired Dr Mike Walker, Chief Economic Advisor at the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority.

Mike will join Frontier as a Senior Advisor on 5 January 2026, providing clients with access to his almost 35 years’ experience of competition economics in their most complex cases.

Mike was appointed Chief Economic Adviser at the CMA in September 2013, and is the only person to have held this position since the CMA was founded in that same year. As a member of the Senior Executive Team, and an adviser to the Board, he has played an integral role in the work of the organisation for over a decade, overseeing economic analysis across the full range of CMA cases.

Mike is also a professor at the College of Europe in Bruges and the University of Durham, and co-author of The Economics of EU Competition Law.

On his appointment, Mike Walker says: “I believe that good microeconomic analysis is key to good competition policy decisions and to public policy more generally.  I think the fantastically talented team at Frontier believe the same and I’m really looking forward to working with them."

Dave Foster, Director in the Competition Practice at Frontier Economics adds: “Mike is one of the world’s leading experts in competition economics, and we are delighted that his unparalleled experience will be available to our clients. Both as an expert witness and as a senior advisor he will bring a wealth of expertise drawn from over a decade of operating at the highest level in global competition policy and enforcement. We look forward to welcoming him to Frontier at what is an exciting time for our growing competition team.”
