Marking the New Year with promotions across Frontier

We’re pleased to share several promotions within Frontier’s management team.

Our new Executive Directors

Matthias Janssen

Matthias advises leading European companies and public authorities in the energy sector. He helps companies and organisations to analyse the economics of their markets and act to gain competitive advantage or respond to regulatory pressure. He regularly advises on energy market design issues, competition assessment, wholesale and retail pricing, and on the assessment of climate policy instruments.

Phil Sneade

Phil works in Frontier’s financial services practice, advising organisations on transfer pricing, competition, and regulatory issues. His work involves financial dispute and litigation support, advising on damages estimation and advising tax authorities and taxpayers on global transfer pricing matters.

David Dorrell

David joined Frontier in 2023 as our new Head of Data Science, bringing leadership to this important area of the business. Prior to joining Frontier, David was Director of Data Science at the UK Competition & Markets Authority where he led the data science and engineering teams and played a central role in setting up the CMA’s Data, Technology and Analytics (DaTA) unit. David provided technical insight and advice on several high-profile digital competition and consumer protection cases.

Our new Directors

Alex Kirykowicz

Alex works in Frontier’s financial services practice. He advises banks, building societies, insurers on regulatory strategy and engagement, policy development, competition and litigation, and commercial and strategic issues. Alex has led work on a wide range of topics within financial services including payments, pensions, conduct regulation, market studies, and inclusion and vulnerability.

Anna Northall

Anna works in our water practice and is an expert on a range of regulatory topics, including regulatory incentive mechanisms, economic appraisal and the design of customer research. She has particular expertise on the topic of outcomes in the water sector, having advised Ofwat, industry research groups, and water companies across the last three price controls.

Aurora Phillips

Aurora focus on network regulation, most recently advising gas and electricity distribution companies in preparation for the RIIO-2 price control, and providing expert support during the energy licence modification appeals before the CMA. She also works on energy transition topics, for example on enabling hydrogen blending in gas networks.

David Lawrence

David works in Frontier's Competition practice. Much of David’s work has a digital focus and he is experienced in providing economic advice to digital companies on mergers, market studies, abuse of dominance investigations, litigation proceedings, and public policy and regulatory issues (including the DMA, DMCC and GDPR).

Mark Johnson

Mark joined Frontier in 2006 and advises clients on a range of strategic and regulatory issues. His work focuses on retail and consumer-facing sectors, and on the commercial and competitive challenges faced by clients in the UK and elsewhere. Mark also supports retailers and consumer-facing businesses in complex commercial litigations, and in their engagement with government and policy issues.

Mike Owen

Mike is a Director in Frontier’s consumer practice, specialising in competition and commercial advisory work. He advises clients on mergers, market investigations and competition and regulatory matters across the UK, Europe and Asia, supporting the development of regulatory engagement strategies that respond effectively to regulatory scrutiny and are grounded in the economics of their businesses. His commercial advisory work focuses on combining economics and commercial judgement to shape pricing strategy, customer proposition design and competitive positioning across consumer-facing sectors including retail, grocery, hospitality, leisure and financial services.

Tara Chapman

Tara works across Frontier’s strategy and competition practices, where she advises large companies on commercial, regulatory and competition issues. Her work focuses on business strategy, regulatory strategy as well as competition policy and disputes. She has supported a number of clients in relation to changing regulatory environments. Tara also advises clients on how to use behavioural insights in both the design of commercial propositions and regulatory action.
