Vinay Popat

Vinay is a Consultant in Frontier’s Energy practice, advising energy networks on economic regulation and commercial strategy.

Since joining Frontier in 2019, he has worked across competition, energy, strategy and telecoms practices, recently focusing primarily on the energy sector.

Vinay has extensive experience in quantitative modelling and forecasting, applied to regulatory and strategic questions across electricity and gas networks. His work spans GB energy regulation, price controls, incentive design, risk and uncertainty, network investment and consumer costs. He has used probabilistic modelling to assess price control risk, forecast network performance under regulatory incentives, and analyse how incentives can improve outcomes for customers.

He has also undertaken economic appraisal of network investment, including quantifying wider benefits from decarbonisation, resilience and societal impacts, and assessing how investments can be coordinated more efficiently.

Vinay holds a BA and MA in Economics from the University of Cambridge and an MSc in Economics from University College London.
