Pension parity: still 20 years to go

Our Strategy team has been nominated for ‘Best Use of Research’ at the PRmoment awards, showing it could take 20 years to close the gender pension gap.

Now in our sixth year partnering with Scottish Widows to produce the annual Women & Retirement report, the team have picked up the nomination alongside global communications firm Teamspirit for their latest analysis that highlights the issues central to women’s savings in retirement.

Our research shows gender inequality through a series of measures and how the retirement landscape looks for different generations, and communities, of women.

Whilst narrowing over the last 20 years, this latest report shows that the gender pension gap is at least another 20 years away from closing.

Alongside research that highlights the size of the gap, the team have employed multiple methodologies to further explain more of the core issues:

  • The National Retirement Forecast shows the retirement lifestyles and income for different generations. Currently 42% of women face poverty in retirement, compared to 35% of men.
  • Women & Investing dives into one of the key drivers of the gap, and how only 38% of women are investing outside of pensions, compared to 55% of men.

The PRmoment awards recognise outstanding use of in-depth and innovative research in campaigns. Winners will be announced on 27 March 2025.
