The UK’s managed service provider (MSP) sector has reached a new scale, with almost 13,000 active firms generating £51bn in revenue and employing more than 340,000 people.
Our newly published report – produced in collaboration with Glass.AI - reveals that a small group of large MSPs accounts for most sector activity, with the top providers generating the majority of revenue and economic output despite representing only a small share of all firms.
Across the sector, cloud computing, IT consulting, and IT infrastructure management remain the most common services mentioned by MSPs, with one in four MSPs highlighting cybersecurity accreditations such as Cyber Essentials or ISO/IEC 27001.
This analysis was commissioned by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT). It combines Frontier’s economic expertise with Glass.AI’s advanced web crawling capabilities to identify companies operating in one of the UK’s fastest-growing digital markets.
Our analysis was published as part of the introduction of the Cyber Security and Resilience Bill (CSR) to Parliament. The Bill proposes that some MSPs be brought into scope of regulation, meaning they will need to meet robust cyber security requirements. Our report found that more than 1,200 MSPs could potentially be in scope of the Bill.
