Gonçalo Lebre de Freitas

Gonçalo provides economic advice to clients across a range of sectors, mainly within Frontier’s Competition and Public Policy practices.  

In the Competition practice, he has advised clients on merger reviews before the CMA, the Bundeskartellamt and the European Commission, including significant cases such as Meta’s acquisition of Kustomer. He has extensive experience in collective proceedings and other disputes, including high-profile cases in the UK, such as Merricks v Mastercard, cases in Portugal for leading digital and payments firms, and damages estimation work across Europe in the Trucks litigation.

Within the Public Policy practice, Gonçalo is skilled in designing and delivering complex evaluations. He has also assessed the societal and economic costs of health conditions, including obesity, and the value of interventions that reduce those costs, such as secondary prevention and research into innovative practices. This work attracted significant media attention, including front‑page stories in The Times and The Independent.

Gonçalo is an ONS Approved Researcher and holds a BSc and MSc in Economics from the Nova School of Business and Economics. He speaks fluent English, conversational Spanish and is a native Portuguese speaker.
