New analysis estimates cost of water nationalisation

Frontier Economics was recently commissioned by Thames Water’s creditor group to estimate the cost of nationalising English water companies.

Using the same methodology published by Defra in 2025, the estimated cost is £144bn in 2030.

The report also includes a discussion of the factors that could make the ultimate cost of nationalising English water companies more or less than the central estimate.
